| A Total Newbie’s Guide
to Using TeamSpeak 2
Introduction TeamSpeak 2 is a voice communications (voice comms) tool for real time voice chat over the internet. This is sometimes referred to as voice over IP. It is designed for gamers to be able to chat with each other while playing a game. This takes team based games to a whole new level as you are able to quickly issue orders and report incidents without having to stop and type your message. We at Multiplay UK offer a free TeamSpeak 2 channel as part of our game server packages, which is probably why you are reading this document! So let’s get you started. This guide will cover: • Getting the TeamSpeak
software. This guide is not meant to be a complete guide to using
TeamSpeak. If you want more information, then look at the FAQ section
of the TeamSpeak website: www.goteamspeak.com
Once the software has downloaded, run the executable and
follow the installation instructions. Once it is installed it might
be useful to place a shortcut on the desktop (if it hasn’t already)
or even on the ‘Quick Launch’ bar. This is entirely up to
you.
When you start TeamSpeak client, the following window
will appear: |

Right now you are not connected to a server, nor do
you have any set up, so let’s do this now.
Click on Connection and select Connect. |

The following window (left) appears:
Right click anywhere in the white space below where it says Servers, and select Add Server. Type in a name for the server. Let’s call it Multiplay UK TS2 |

| As soon as you press enter, the right hand side of the window will change,
and you will see this: All the details are empty just now. |

| In Server Address, enter ts2.multiplay.co.uk (The image to the right is out of date, please use ts2.multiplay.co.uk) In Nickname, enter your nickname. For now, make sure the Anonymous button is selected. The password for anonymous connections to our server is simply: mpuk Now click on the Connect button at the bottom. |

Step 3 – Setting Up Your Channel and Registering with the Server If you have purchased a server package from us and you don’t have a TS channel set up on our server yet, the first thing you need to do is grab hold of an MPUK admin. The easiest way to do this is to pop into IRC and join #mpukhosting. If you don’t know how to use IRC, then refer to the IRC user guide. The admin should ask you to join our server. Once inside he will create a channel and give it a password of your choice. He will then ask you to join your channel. Simply scroll down the list of names until you come to your channel, then double click on it. You will be asked for the channel password, type it in and press enter. The next part is important. Assuming you are the registered payee of the clan server, the admin will allow you to register with the TeamSpeak server and grant you Channel Admin rights. When he asks you to register with the server, click on the Self menu at the top and select Register With Server. You will be asked for a username and password. Your username does not have to be the same as your nickname. Once you have registered the admin should then give you channel admin rights, and you will see (R CA) next to your name. As a channel admin, you will be able to change your channel name, topic,
password and description. You will be able to create sub channels, and
you can kick or mute other players in your channel as well as grant them
temporary channel admin status. |
|||
| To edit channel items simply right click on your channel name and select
Edit Channel.
To kick a player etc, simply right click on their name and select the action. Finally, to ensure you have Channel Admin status every time you rejoin the server, click on the Connection menu and select Connect. Highlight the Multiplay server. Instead of joining the server anonymously, you are now going to join as a registered user, so click on the Registered button, and enter the Login Name and User Password you registered with the server. Also, if you now enter your channel name in Default Channel and the password in the Channel Password, you should automatically join your channel as soon as you join the server.
